The Ted Vick Accelerated Reader Program
Our school believes that reading is the foundation for future success in school and in life. We participate in the Accelerated Reading program as a way to encourage students to read, while giving them practice in reading fluency and reading comprehension. Students may check out AR books from both the school library and through their classroom teachers. The Accelerated Reader program has thousands of titles, so even if a student checks out a book from the local library or purchases a book from Barnes and Noble, chances are it is already an AR book.
In order to successfully participate in the AR program, students should be reading for a minimum of 30 minutes each evening.
TVE Accelerated Reading Reward Program
Students who participate in the Accelerated Reading program have the ability to earn tickets to spend at the A.R. Store. The A.R. Store occurs once a trimester for students to shop. Each trimester students are able to earn up to four tickets towards purchases at the AR store. Tickets are earned when students meet their A.R. goal as set by their teacher.
The AR Extravaganza is held twice a year for students who have met their AR goals. Each Extravaganza is a unique experience where students get to celebrate their achievements through art activities, dances, sporting events and movies.
The AR Reading Challenge begins in January and ends in May. The top readers from each grade level are invited to a special lunch with the Principal, Mrs. Jauss and are awarded with certificates and chances to win prizes. The top readers are chosen based on the number of words they were able to read between January and May.
